25 years of ICONAG

ICONAG-Leittechnik looks back on eventful and exciting years

The company was founded in 1996 by Thomas Fritz and Christian Wild as "ICON Intelligent Control". The object of the company is the operation of technical building systems on a PC for the purpose of simplified operational management and energy savings. Already in the year of foundation the two managing directors can be pleased about the award of the innovation price Rhineland-Palatinate.

The young company deals very early with the further development of software for buildings with modern building automation systems. The first project is an intuitive software for demand-based and energy-saving heating, which is used in the theater "Peiner Festsäle" in Peine.

The installation of a fault message management system in the DRK blood donation service in Springe brings the company its breakthrough. A sales cooperation with the most important German industrial companies for electrical installation technology, Merten, Jung and ABB, brings together competences. Many projects in Germany, European countries and worldwide follow: Food markets of the American armed forces in almost all Western European countries, an airport in Beijing, a horse racing track in Singapore and Disney Land in Buenos Aires.

In 2000, a participation of Lexel S.A., a Finnish-Swedish supplier of electrical installation technology, is signed. The company name changes, the new name of the company is now "ICONAG". Three million euros are invested in the development of a proprietary controller, the "ic.1 - internet-controller 1". It opens up smaller properties for remote monitoring, remote control and energy management. ICONAG wins the European IT Prize for this product.

The "ic.1" is sold by almost all manufacturers of electrical installation technology in Germany as well as by a subsidiary of EON and is produced in quantities of several thousand per year. To this day, the "ic.1" runs perfectly and is still available for purchase. In 2004, ICONAG has 25 employees and a turnover of 2.5 million euros. Reference companies such as RWE-Schott-Solar and Aixtron are proof of the success of the B-CON software, which monitors and controls the complex media supply for production. Johnson Controls (JCI), a global player in control technology, sells B-CON as the little brother of its own solution. 2005 sees the separation from Lexel S.A. and the division of the company.

Today's ICONAG-Leittechnik GmbH takes over the software division. The products are distributed via partners, who, in addition to the electrical trade, increasingly come from the areas of heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology. B-CON is extended as software by the meanwhile worldwide established protocol BACnet. This enables the networking and management of buildings across properties and manufacturers. In 2010, further well-known customers and projects are acquired, including Audi for the building technology and media supply of the Q5 plant in Mexico.

In 2018, Christian Wild takes over sole management of the company. The company focuses on BACnet and on operators of their own real estate portfolios. The continuous build-up of know-how and involvement in various committees lead to a respectable growth course and considerable references. Many well-known companies such as AOK, Audi, Bosch, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, EnBW, IKK, Mercedes-Benz, Lidl, Penny or Telekom are among the users of the ICONAG software as well as numerous savings and cooperative banks, cities, counties and federal states. As a result, B-CON software is also used in prisons, nuclear power plants and road tunnels, for example, to ensure greater operational reliability and energy efficiency.

Today, ICONAG Leittechnik is on a sustained growth course. The 20 employees are already working on the next innovation: an open data hub for the digitalization of technical building management.

ICONAG-Leittechnik GmbH in Idar-Oberstein is an internationally active company specializing in the development and marketing of software solutions for the digitalization of technical building management. The goal since the company was founded in 1996 has been to simplify the operational management of buildings in an increasingly complex technical landscape and to reduce energy consumption. The basic requirement for this is: all technical functions and information of all trades must be combined in one management system.
