B-CON as BACnet OWS/BMS

Bildschirm BACnet MBE GLT

Are you looking for an optimal operator workstation (OWS) or building management system (BMS) for your non-proprietary building automation with BACnet? Then you may benefit from the varied B-CON functions tailored for BACnet and our 15 years of experience gained in hundreds of BACnet projects.

  • Native interface for connecting BACnet
  • Direct reading of BACnet objects via the network
  • Transfer of the equipment identification system (EIS) from BACnet objects
  • Direct visualization of all objects for display and operation in list form
  • On-board BACnet display elements and controls for quick visualization of key BACnet object types
  • Symbol libraries for all applications with comprehensive display elements and controls for quick visualization
  • Visualization in HTML5 format for use across all networks
  • Powerful alarm and event management, schedule management, trend management, and many more for efficient building operation
  • Integrated energy management system
  • Very easy integration of additional systems at the management level (OPC, KNX, ModBus; the entire list of B-CON interfaces is provided here)
  • Ideally scalable for projects from 10 to over 100,000 BACnet objects

About BACnet

“Building Automation and Control Networks”, or BACnet, is a globally standardized communications protocol. It is particularly suitable for creating manufacturer-independent building automation systems. By now, virtually all vendors of proprietary automation stations are offering interfaces to BACnet or use BACnet for communication at the management level.

A special feature of BACnet is that all of the information and functions related to an object are transmitted in a BACnet object. In practice, this means for example that a temperature value is displayed together with alarm parameters like the upper and lower threshold, the alarm status, etc., instead of transmitting this information in separate data points without the actual value.

Another special feature is that BACnet objects and all their properties can be accessed easily via the network. This ensures that no information is lost between the programming of the automation stations and the setup of the management stations. This is a key function in the construction process, in particular with regard to Building Information Modeling (BIM).

BACnet conformity of B-CON – so that you become truly independent with BACnet

Logo BACnet

Even though the “Building Automation and Control Network”, or BACnet, is a globally standardized communication protocol, many proprietary vendors of automation systems use BACnet only to create dependencies by adding functionalities outside the standard. For this reason, various organizations have begun to specify how exactly automation systems under BACnet should be implemented so that in the end, all of the relevant information and functions are available to everybody. B-CON enables you to support all conformity requirements, in particular those by the workgroup on machinery and electrical engineering of German national and municipal administrations (AMEV, Arbeitskreis Maschinen- und Elektrotechnik). In practice, B-CON allows you to benefit from

  • Functionality as a BACnet operator workstation (BACnet OWS)
  • Functionality as a BACnet advanced operator workstation (BACnet AWS)
  • Long-standing member of the BACnet User Group
  • Experiences from hundreds of BACnet projects, some of which with significantly over 100,000 objects.
  • Experts in the planning of open BACnet OWS/BMS systems, publishers of the BACnet BMS guideline
  • Replacement or integration of proprietary operator workstations in BACnet environments

Benefits of using B-CON with BACnet

Your primary benefits from using BACnet and B-CON are:

  • Globally standardized, open communication between automation stations and with the management level
  • Supported by over 150 building automation vendors worldwide
  • Increased security and functionality through bundling of related functions and information in BACnet objects
  • Support for Building Information Modeling by storing all relevant functions of communication objects in the automation stations
  • Easy reading of BACnet objects via the network
  • Sustainability and high investment security due to software maintenance and regular updates
  • Free B-CON product support
  • Dual-level training program for qualification in the creation of visualizations and operator workstations
  • Optional project support by project and support employees experienced in BACnet

The following points need to be observed for the successful and manufacturer-neutral implementation of your facility management system with BACnet

  • Work out a detailed definition of the display, control, and management functions required for the operation of your building
  • Specify that only BACnet properties compliant with the BACnet standard may be used to implement your functional requirements
  • Finalize your equipment equipment identification system (EIS) before beginning to program the BACnet controllers
  • Ensure that all of the smart functions in the automation systems are represented. (e.g. control tasks, generation of alarms and events, short-term trend logging, etc.)
  • Clearly specify the configuration of the IP network, and coordinate the options with IT
